Apostille & Document Legalisation for Türkiye

If you need a UK Power of Attorney or other legal document for use in Türkiye, the document may need to be signed or certified before a UK solicitor or notary and then legalised with an FCDO apostille. The requirements depend on the Turkish authority receiving the document.

The wording and signing formalities should be agreed with the Turkish lawyer, notary or authority that will use it before it is signed. An English or Welsh Lasting Power of Attorney is a different legal instrument from a Turkish Power of Attorney and should not be assumed to have the same legal effect in Türkiye.

Statutory declarations, affidavits and other declarations may need to be signed or sworn before an authorised legal professional before the FCDO can apostille the relevant signature. The correct route depends on the document and what the Turkish recipient has requested.

The receiving authority should confirm the required wording, supporting evidence and whether a Turkish translation is needed before the declaration is completed.

UK degree certificates, diplomas and academic transcripts may need a certified copy, verification from the awarding institution, or another form of certification before an apostille can be issued. The correct approach depends on the document and the Turkish university, employer, professional body or public authority receiving it.

Apostille and translation requirements should be confirmed with that institution. Different institutions may ask for different forms of verification, so there is no single process that applies to every UK academic document.

An original UK birth, marriage or death certificate, or an official certified copy issued by the General Register Office or a local register office, can generally be submitted for an apostille without prior solicitor certification. An ordinary photocopy is not the same as an official certificate.

The Turkish authority receiving the certificate may ask for a Turkish translation or impose additional requirements for the particular registration or application. These should be checked before submission.

A travel consent form records a parent or guardian's consent to a child's journey. Where a Turkish authority, airline or other organisation asks for one, it may need particular wording, supporting identification, witnessed signatures and an apostille.

Requirements vary with the circumstances and the organisation receiving the form. This page does not suggest that a travel consent form is legally required for every journey to Turkey.

Company documents can include Companies House certificates, board or members' resolutions, constitutional documents, declarations, contracts and corporate Powers of Attorney. Some official Companies House documents can be apostilled in their issued form; privately prepared documents may first need an eligible signature or solicitor certification.

Commercial requirements can differ from those for personal documents. The Turkish company, lawyer, notary, bank or authority receiving the document should confirm the form, execution and translation it requires before legalisation begins.

ACRO police certificates, DBS certificates and other police or disclosure documents may be requested for employment, residence or another application in Turkey. The FCDO determines whether the particular document is eligible and whether any certification is needed before the apostille is issued.

The receiving authority should confirm whether it requires an original, which type of apostille it will accept and whether a translation is needed. No fixed acceptance period or completion time is assumed here.

Other UK documents may also be eligible for certification and an apostille, including passport copies, contracts, court documents, medical documents and signed letters. Eligibility and the correct authentication route depend on the document, its issuer and its intended use in Turkey.
